June 7, 2007 Mazie’s Pool

June 8, 2007 2:42 am

If any of you happened to watch yesterday’s video, then you may remember us talking about Mazie, the lady who baked all the cinnamon rolls for us. Let me say that this world needs a lot more people like her.

Years ago, Mazie saw a need in her community for a pool that all the kids could go to in the summertime, and if my memory serves me correctly, she saved aluminum cans for 10 years in order to fund this project. Everyone in her community, and in surrounding towns heard of her project, and starting saving their cans, also. She told us of how everyone would leave bags of cans on their mailbox posts, and she would drive around, collecting bag after bag. After doing this for several years, Mazie was finally able to purchase the pool for her community. We drove by it, and it is beautiful. Even still, her local government will not support what she is doing, so she continues to collect cans to fund the chemicals and maintenance. Mazie is 88 years old. What a great soul! Just thought that maybe you would like to hear a bit about the kind of people that we are meeting out here. What an amazing adventure!

Another heartwarming story. It seems day after day we only hear what is bad going on in this world. It is so refreshing to be able to hear about all the good that is also happening. Mazie’s story is one of those! She saw a need and through God’s help found a way to fulfill that need. Awesome!

(P.S. Her cinnamon rolls look absolutely delicious!!!)

Take care, God bless and keep on pedaling!

Blessings,

The Lord uses all types of people with the skills He has gifted them with for His Glory! Love the story :)

The Lord can do amazing things through those that are ALIVE in Christ and willing to align their will with His…….. That’s happiness :)

What a great story! thank you so much for sharing.

I hope someone else will carry on her mission when she is no longer able to.

It is so nice to hear these stories about everyday people going out of thier way to do extraordinary things.

I hope you guys are journaling. The people you meet and the stories you gather could be songs in the future. Certainly they are a sweet melody already to our Lord…

As are you guys!! “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” Matt 5:8

It is cool how you are seeing aspects of God’s character revealed in the people you are meeting and in this entire experience. Thanks for sharing this with us. Again, what a bold journey you all are on!

Peace be the journey,

Steve

How blessed are the people you are meeting and as you are blessed, you are blessing us with the recaps. It is a wonderful circle of love……Peace and love to all, Jen

Our sentiment for you is this:

“We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God your work produced by faith, you labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ”.

I heard you talk about this in your interview with Frank Reed, it’s a really awesome story! God really does work in mysterious ways, cinnamon rolls, aluminum cans, and Mazie! I don’t know what politics are behind the local government thing, but it sounds as if the people with a servants heart came out victoriuos regardless.

Looking forward to your Faces of Faith interview Sunday AM on CNN. I listen to the regular CNN news channel in the early morning and they were plugging your interview pretty well. Your service and your mission are being recognized, and to the greater benefit of the kids!!! Like I said before, we pray that many blessings come from this ride……
Amen?!!!

Mark,

As I prepare to ride with you later this month in Illinois, I have been tracking your progress (VIA. this wounderful Blog.)

I couldn’t help but notice, that this bicycle journey for you is much like our Christian Journey of Faith or (Faith Walk) if you will.

Week one was something new for you, cycling long distances, every day ,day after day very dificult to stay possitive on this new journey. But as the weeks “ROLL” on it becomes easier for you because it is a daily part of your life.

Not unlike our Faith Walk, if we walk (or Ride) with Christ everyday of our lives it becomes much easier to praise and worship Him for everything He does for us.

I guess what I am trying to say, watching you from day one until today, there has been a very close correlation between your journey and my faith walk.

May God bless you and keep you safe on your journey.

What a sweet, precious lady! She has given of herself for others for all of these years and just continues to give! What a servant’s heart she has! You are right, Mark, the world does need more people like Mazie. But, I can think of at least one more that the world is blessed with! ; ) Take care and God bless!

Hi Mark! You rode right by my family’s house today! My dad and brother were outside mowing and saw the big bus and you! Keep going! You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
